Takes 2 to assemble. The bed is sturdy and draws are a great place to store the extra bedding. To go with this bed, I bought 2 of the dove gray Trundle daybeds. Also purchased four 8 inch foam mattresses, four twin mattress covers, four twin and two king duvet and sheet sets, and lots of pillows and pillow covers. Now I have 2 king or 4 twin, or 1 king and 2 twin ready for family to visit for the holidays.

  • Innovative design, but not perfection.

This bed has a solid feel and looks just like the photos on the website. It is one of the few day beds on the market that keeps the main bed and the "trundle" at the same height and this is what gives it the ability to expand to a split king. The storage drawers are roomy for extra bedding or whatever you want to keep nearby. On the "down side", the assembly is fairly extensive, it is awkward and difficult to convert the bed from twin to king and it is not a "true king" as the twin mattress is 5 inches shorter than a king. The back and sides rise only 13 inches above the bed slats. Using an 8 inch mattress leaves only 5 inches of "backrest" available to lean on when using as a couch. If the back and sides were 3 to 5 inches higher it would be more accommodating. The design does not allow it to be used as 2 separated twin beds, it is one twin bed or one split king bed. I am happy with the bed but it is not perfection.

I ordered two of them in white for a front porch at a lake house. They are definitely very time consuming to put together with two people, but they are worth it. They fit perfectly in the space I have and they are so easy to pull out to kings. I bought 2 six-inch memory foam mattresses for each bed and they are so comfortable. My guests have enjoyed them as twins or kings and when I don't have guests staying on them, I sleep on these beds!

Started with two boxes of lumber and a bag of screws, and carefully followed directions. I'm a small woman (5 feet tall). I was able to assemble this really cool bed all by myself with only one slat hiccup. Easily fixed and I love this daybed with tons of storage!

Great bed design. Can use it as twin, full, queen or king (I used air mattress for full & queen size ). Yes, it is somewhat challenging to put together, but not impossible. It took 3 pretty mechanically gifted & logically thinking adults close to 3 hours to put it together. After first use I added wood glue to the drawer joints because they did loosen some. All in all bed is very sturdy. The brown wood stain is warm & natural looking. I keep extra sheets and blankets in the storage drawers in the base of the bed and as fillers in pillows on daybed. Perfect extra sleeping area for spillover company.

I bought this bed for my guest bedroom and cannot be happier. 2 5-inch twin mattresses fit perfectly. Lots of storage space with the 2 drawers. It took a bit to assemble but totally worth it.

Took a little longer than expected to put it together but it was worth the wait. Great bed - plenty of room when it is opened up.

Lots of parts to put together, but once together the trundle day bed looks great!

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

"Where does the 2nd mattress get stored?"

    • A:

When the daybed is not opened to the king, you would put the mattress on top of the one that is on the daybed.

    • A:

The second mattress just rests on top of the first or it has to be stored elsewhere.

    • A:

On top of the main mattress on the bed.

  • Q:

"How do you assemble the trundle slats?"

    • A:

It's easy but weird. I was able to follow the instructions and figure it out. The slats offset each other. The screw only goes on one end of the slat. They end up overlapping each other and when close they're adjacent to each other. Weird but it makes sense when it all comes together.

    • A:

It is tricky, you have to screw them into the trundle on one side, the side where the drawers are installed. They go in between the slates on the other bed and they remain loose on one side. There is a thin particle board piece that holds them together on this side.

  • Q:

"Would it be hard to slide out the extension if sitting on medium pile carpet?"

    • A:

Any type of carpet can cause resistance when pulling out the trundle/storage drawers - especially if the carpet is thicker than usual

    • A:

We just purchased this and it sits on Berber carpet. It does cause some minimal resistance but nothing too cumbersome that doesn't allow us to easily use the drawers on a regular basis.

    • A:

It can be very difficult to pull out the extension to make it into a double bed. It's a two-person or very strong one-person job. The drawers pull out fine, however.

  • Q:

"Can you leave the foot board off for tall people?"

    • A:

Unfortunately not - the footboard is part of the set up of the daybed.

  • Q:

"Has anyone tried putting the “twin” up on risers to store other mattress when not in use?"

    • A:

This unit cannot be put on risers - this would cause a severe safety issue

  • Q:

"Can I Use just one mattress that is about 10" thick? (keeping as twin bed)"

    • A:

This bed should use a standard twin mattress, generally 39 x 75" works well. We suggest each mattress be 4-6"H.

  • Q:

"Where is the lower mattress stored, when not fully expanded/not in use?"

    • A:

You stack the two mattresses on top of each other when the trundle is pushed in and it becomes a couch. Also, the mattresses are at the same height, one isn't lower than the other.

    • A:

No we would not suggest partially extending the bed as it may not be fully level/supported in a semi-extend position.
