We just moved into a house with hardwood floors everywhere. I got this to go under a rug for my living room. It's nice because it's not too thick, but substantial enough for my expensive hand made wool area rug. I had a few inches of rug overlap the pad to give it a lay flat look and the pad isn't noticeable at all. The picture you can see the pad sticking out because I will finish by cutting it to fit. Great buy. Four stars because it was very wrinkly, but the weight of the rug made it so you can't tell

My husband and I wanted something to protect our builder-grade master bedroom carpet in our new house, since we walk through our bedroom several times a day in order to go to the master bathroom and knew it wouldn't be long until the carpet was showing a dingy path from our bedroom door to the master bathroom door. So we ordered a plastic vinyl runner, which was a disaster because it bunched up, looked terrible and caused us to trip and almost fall on several occasions until we got rid of it. Then, we ordered a carpet rug runner, but the carpet runner would not stay in place either. When I ordered this non-slip rug pad (runner size), it helped, but didn't completely do the trick as the runner still had to be straightened from time to time. Finally, since our bedroom carpet is about the color of the beige/light part of this non-slip pad, I suggested to my husband that we just use the non-slip pad by itself and get rid of the carpet runner altogether. At first I think he thought the idea was a little nuts, but he was so tired of straightening the carpet runner that he was willing to try it. So, now, all we use is this non-slip rug pad (runner size), and it looks fine and works GREAT!! No sloppy bunched-up vinyl or carpet runners! This pad is lightweight but stays in place, and, beige-side up, it doesn't look bad at all on top of our carpet. The quality of the pad is great, and it is doing a great job of protecting our carpet. It is so lightweight and easy to work with that it wouldn't be any trouble at all to take up when guests come over, (not that I'm sure we will even want to), and then put back down once the guests leave. Bottom line: This pad didn't completely stop our carpet runner from moving, but our carpet runner was being used on top of bedroom carpet instead of on a hardwood floor. However, it is working GREAT on its own as a runner to protect our existing carpet from getting dirty and worn down in an area that we walk on several times a day.

This pad really stops slipping rugs. Have bought many carpets here and all went in rooms with slippery wooden floors. Simply put, it works. Also provides some extra softness to make carpet feel more plush. All around great option.

I will never use a rug without this rug pad. Don't skip this step if you have hardwoods! I am serious! We used rugs on our hardwood floors. The rugs left places on the hardwoods - even the soft touch rugs. NEVER again will I skip this step. This pad is perfect to protect my floors.

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

    "Where is this made?"

    • A:

      Country of origin is USA

  • Q:

"Is it safe to place over apartment carpet but under an area rug? I want to protect the apt carpets. Also, is it waterproof?"

    • A:

I haven't had any stickiness or excessive residue problem placing the pad on a hardwood floor. I do not think you would want the pad over a carpet though, seems like overkill. I also do not think it is waterproof but haven't spilled anything substantial enough on my rug to go through to the pad. For my purpose, it is a good pad.

  • Q:

"I was disappointed with this rug pad. I wasn't expecting this type of backing which is similar to one I had on hardwood floors previously, which left extreme residue. I had to get professional cleaners to remove the stickiness off the floor. I live in the south with high humidity. Does anyone from the south have experience with this pad? Hate to return it."

    • A:

I’ve had this in the entryway on our wood floors for several months without leaving the stickiness you mentioned. We’re in Houston and switched to this type of pad from the thinner weave pattern pads that do tend to leave the stickiness.

  • Q:

    "how thick is this pad?"

    • A:

      It’s about 1/8” thick.

    • A:

This pad is only to prevent slipping not for cushioning .

  • Q:

"Are these rug pads safe for laminate flooring?"

    • A:

Yes. They do not slip and have a specific side to use for laminate.

    • A:

Yes they are and it works well

    • A:

Yes, I use on my laminate and work well with no issues.

    • A:

      yes, I've had no issues.

    • A:

Yes, I've used mine on laminate flooring for almost a year. It really holds the rug in place and also gives it a little extra cushion.

  • Q:

"My rug I just got is 7.9 x10 .. what size pad do I need. I only see the 8x10 that is the close.. "

    • A:

This pad is easy to trim to size.

    • A:

Order the 8 X 10 and just cut off a few inches from one dish to fit. Betty M. Sept 01 2020

    • A:

I agree. Get the 8 by 10. I had a 6 by 9 rug and we had to trim the 6 by 9 pad slightly. It wasn't a big deal, although it took more than a few minutes. The pad is great, not too thick but with definite heft. Barbara H, Sept. 5, 2020

    • A:

The pad can be easily trimmed to size with a scissor or utility knife. You should trim the pad to be 1 1/2 - 2 inches smaller than the carpet on all sides. This will enable the carpet to lay flat on the floor.

    • A:

I think you can cut the 8x 10 rug pad.

    • A:

The 8 x 10 rug pad is your best choice. Simply place your pad down and center it in your chosen location. Place your rug on top of the pad and center it. I did not have heavy-duty scissors but my household scissors worked just fine and you will be able to trim the pad to fit your rug. Enjoy your purchase Sep 09 2020

  • Q:

"Will these rug pads stick to concrete floors (not grip to keep from slipping, but actually STICK to the floor and not come off)? I had a rubber backed pad that stuck to the floor and permanently left little dots all over the floor. Since this is also rubber, will it stick to the floor?"

    • A:

So far mine has NOT stuck to the floor at all. Thankfully, it hasn't had to pass the spill test yet. It does work awesome as a nonskid pad.

    • A:

Probably only way to know on YOUR floor is to try it. Mine doesn’t stick to a hardwood floor but my floor might be different from another hardwood floor. Sorry. Good thin pad tho.

    • A:

I have this pad on laminate flooring so I cant give an honest answer. There is rubber on one side, compressed felt on the other side. I would turn it over and put the felt side on the concrete. The instructions say to not put the rubber on wood floor and to turn it over so I would personally do the same for your concrete. My opinion.

    • A:

Nope, will not stick to anything! They have a soft side

    • A:

No it will not stick to your concrete floor. I have had the type you are talking about and this product is not anything like it. This holds your rug in place without sticking to floors. It is my go to product and the only one I use. It works great under a dining room table. We slide our chairs in and out and the rug stays in place every time.

    • A:

I don’t know if it would stick. I know what you mean by dots stuck to the floor. This under pad does have a rubbery side. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful
