  • Easy, Fast, Modular.

My wife bought this for a weekend project. I thought it would take forever but It was actually a very easy setup, probably about 45 mins to an hour. All you have to do is grab 4x4 timbers from a hardware store, cut them to the size you want your pergola to be, and sinch it all together with the fat screws they provide. We also added a deck stain to make the wood more weather resistant. We also bought to kits and connected them together with 2x4's to make for a section where vines could grow up and over. For the shade sail, we just bought one online for like ***. Though the brackets are kind of expensive, overall it ended being much cheaper than a prebuilt kit and fit better because we were able to determine the size ourselves. Highly recommend.

  • Simplifies pergola building process

I was intimidated by the thought of building a pergola. I needed a structure that could withstand winds - we get a lot of gusts on 30mph plus that have crumpled gazebos because the covers are so firmly attached. When I discovered this kit it resolved my intimidation problem because it greatly simplified the building process. Yes, I probably could have used a bunch of brackets to mimick the effect but I'd have to build each corner and get the angles just right... Back to overwhelm and time consuming. We built two pergolas: 8' x 12' x12' and 8' x 8.5' x12'. We needed 3 people and had 5. It took a total of 4 hours with breaks to build both. It would have been much harder with only 3 but doable. I reduced by a star because I can see that the welding done to make these kits doesn't look complete as some parts where the edges line up are not welded and even have a tiny space. It does feel sturdy however. Don't turn bolts too tight. They are good lag bolts but we snapped a head off and couldn't get it out.

  • Tack welded?!?

Returning it because the four base footings are tack-welded instead of seam-welded like the top pieces which means they are much weaker and could break off over time especially on a pergola exposed to the elements. Why this is an acceptable shortcut and not considered a serious safety hazard is very disappointing given the weight and use of pergolas. If these weak weld points break then posts could slide off foundations with disastrous consequences. Sorry, too risky for me as well as my oblivious lemonade-sipping, pie-eating, beer-guzzling, post-leaning friends and relatives.
