For me, this book tower is a more affordable version of the original. I bought two and had them both assembled in under an hour. I've used them for a mixture of small- to medium-sized hardbacks and paperbacks, putting several large, heavy books on the base for added stability. As other reviewers have commented, the shelves are not adjustable; so rather than stacking books by subject, I chose to fill each shelf based on the thickness of the combined books. This way each full shelf supports the one above it and I have no gaps in the stacks.

Love, love, love this book tower. It was easy to assemble - I did it by myself in 30 minutes or so - and once it's against the wall and even partially filled with books, it looks amazing. I have hardwood floors, so I put felt pads on the bottom 4 corners. I have 3-4 books per shelf and it is very solid. It even has a small counter weight ledge that sticks out in back near the floor and keeps the top from hitting the wall - nice touch. Because the books conceal most of the tower, it would work in any style room or decor.

i LOVE this book tower! i have tons of books at work and home. Many more books than shelf space. this shelf is perfect because the vertical stack does not take up much space in the room and it's easy to read the titles. worked so well in the office, i ordered 2 more for home!

I love my tower! I use it for books but I also use the very top shelf for a wireless speaker. It is very sturdy, however, I did not pack it to the max (it was very heavy) nor did I attach it to the wall since I intend to move later on.

I got use out of this book shelf for nearly 3 years before giving it to my younger sister. It works for what it's supposed to do. It does look a tad bit cheap. It's light in weight, color is true (I got the black ones). I had them in my bedroom, which is carpeted, and without weighing it down with books, it probably would have tipped. This would definitely have been most stable on hard flooring. It was very easy to put together, and take apart.

I received this spine book tower yesterday. It was very easy to assemble, yet it seems very sturdy. I was happy to see that you could use as many or as few of the selves as needed. However by the time I finished I used all of the selves. It looks great. I think I'll purchase another one soon. Very cool item....I had seen one in an office several years ago. Glad I found it on Overstocked.

anything is possible, but i have two cats and they haven't knocked it over yet. i think the smooth surface helps to keep them away. there's nothing to grab on to. i keep it near the wall and put more weight at the bottom to keep it steady. just in case, don't put anything fragile on it. i love this shelf and it gets a lot of compliments. i would go for it and just make it less inviting to your cat!
